price of a child

I'd Trade It All

I sit here, my family incomplete.
You should be here.
We are missing a set of feet.
I'd trade it all...

I should be sharing this new environment with you.
Instead, You're back in Virginia.
And I have to wipe away my tears with a tissue.
I'd trade it all...

My son is suffering,
And its all my fault.
It hurts like a wound mixed with salt.
I'd trade it all...

Where are you?
Are you okay?
Will we meet again?
I'd trade it all....To be with you my son...Bennie Pryor.

  1. I'm wondering how the body of your poem connects to title. Your title "I'd Trade It All" sets the reader up thematically for a poem that will communicate the many things that Mercer would trade to regain what she has lost (her son Bennie), but I don't really get that as a reader of your poem. Instead, you seem to focus more on her feelings around her loss. What might you have done differently to fulfill the focus you set up initially through your title?
